Introduction
I’ve had a profound experience of learning about Jesus, as He has been revealed to me through the Word. In my journey of learning to declare the Word, the Lord has opened so many scriptures to me that have deepened my understanding of who Jesus really is and how I can apply this knowledge in my life to live in victory.
If you’ve never experienced the freedom that the Gospel offers, I invite you to open your heart to the message that follows. When I talk about the freedom of the Gospel, I’m referring to the fact that many children of God still live under the Law, binding themselves to “achievements” and trying to earn their salvation through their own efforts. I was once trapped in this, but thank God, He has delivered me. Now I am free to fully embrace the grace that has been shown to me, and I find my freedom in it.
For the power of the Lord to work in your life, you first need to understand who you are. And to understand who you are, you must first understand who Jesus is and what He has done for you. Let’s explore a few scriptures that may sound familiar, but I believe will reveal a deeper understanding of who Jesus really is.
Who is Jesus?
- John 3:16-18: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- John 1:1-4: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”
- John 1:12-14: “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
- John 14:5-6: “Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”
- Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
- Colossians 1:16-18: “For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
These scriptures may sound familiar to you, but have you ever truly stopped to consider that everything in creation is held together by Jesus? What do these verses teach us about who Jesus is?
- He is the Word.
- He is the Way.
- He is the Truth.
- He is the Life.
- Everything exists in, through, and for Him.
When we believe in Him, we are saved.
It’s easy to view these elements—way, truth, and life—as separate categories, but they all come together in Jesus. The Word tells us that knowing the Truth will set us free, and in the same breath, it tells us that knowing Jesus is the key to freedom. Because Jesus is the Truth. Similarly, when the Word says Jesus came to give life in abundance, it is saying that He came to give us Himself, because Jesus is Life.
John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” And in the same moment, we can say, “Sanctify them by the truth; Jesus is the truth, because Jesus is the Word.”
Can you see why the name of Jesus is above every name? There are no separate sections when it comes to living in victory. If you are searching for the way, the truth, and the life, look to Jesus. In Him, all of these things are already present.
What Does This Mean for Us?
If all of these elements come together in the form of our Savior, Jesus Christ, what does this mean for you and me? It means freedom.
John 8:36 says, “If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.”
When everything is in Jesus, we only need to come to one place: Jesus. In the years I’ve been saved, there were many areas where I didn’t understand who the Lord truly was. I knew He had saved me, but I thought I needed to strive to live a holy life on my own. I tried to read the Word and pray every day, even when I didn’t feel like it, because I believed it determined my spiritual status. I felt like a failure most of the time, thinking I had to meet some unreachable standard to impress God.
I had been taught that when Jesus came to earth, He set the standard for holiness, and that I had to try even harder to meet that standard. I couldn’t understand how the Word spoke of a freeing Gospel, because I felt more bound than ever before. I wanted to give up many times and thought that this Christian life wasn’t for me.
But thank God, He never gives up on us. He is so good to us.
The first revelation the Lord gave me was in Hebrews 12:14, and it was the beginning of my journey in discovering who Jesus really is. I used to read that verse and think it was telling me to work harder to meet the standard of holiness, but one night, the Holy Spirit revealed something to me.
That verse isn’t about us trying to reach some impossible standard; it’s about keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. Ephesians 2:14 says, “For He Himself is our peace,” and 1 Corinthians 1:30 says, “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.”
Jesus is our sanctification. It’s not a command to try harder to live a holy life; it’s an invitation to focus on Jesus, the One through whom all things are held together.
The Freedom of Belief
Your salvation and position in God’s Kingdom are not determined by how well you live or what you do. They depend on what you choose to believe.
The undeniable truth is that we are already sanctified, saved, and victorious. There is no “last chapter” we’re waiting for. We are already living in our happy ending because of the love and grace of the King, in whom all things exist, and through whom all things are held together. His name is Jesus Christ.
All it costs you is to believe.
When you see that Jesus is already everything you need, and that He has already fulfilled every standard that needed to be fulfilled, you can begin to live in that freedom. Your victory and breakthrough begin with the decision to believe that Jesus has broken the chains of the law, and that in Him you live a life of freedom, holiness, power, victory, and grace.
That’s why the Gospel is Good News.
It was never a two-way operation; it was a one-way mission of victory. Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Savior.
What Do We Do with This Knowledge?
Once I realized that my victory and salvation are not in my hands but already secured in Jesus, I could start taking authority over situations in my life. Do I get it right all the time? No, I have to remind myself often of who I really am.
For the past few months, my wife and I have taken communion every morning, not as a ritual, but as a discipline. Why? Because I want to begin each day focused on Jesus and what He has done, so I can constantly remember that it’s by His goodness that I can live a life of freedom—a life of blessings, victory, power, love, and fearlessness.
When we start each day with Jesus, our minds are renewed. We can leave behind everything that happened yesterday with peace, knowing it no longer defines us, because we are new creations in Jesus’ name.
Now that I know everything exists in and through Jesus, and I know who I truly am in Him, I can begin to take control of what happens in my life. I know that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. I know that He is my sanctification, my victory, my strength, and my peace. All I need to do to see that truth manifest in my life is declare it through the Word.
We read the Word because it is Jesus. And where does Jesus dwell? In us. We read the Word so that the Holy Spirit can activate what’s already in our hearts—His Word, His truth, which we can declare over our circumstances.
It’s like invisible ink that the UV light of the Holy Spirit makes visible. When you read the Word, ask the Holy Spirit to bring it to life so you can declare it over your life today. “Lord, this is Your Word in my mouth, bringing victory into my life. This is the name of Jesus on my tongue, bringing victory into my life.”
We are simply affirming what is already true. How powerful is it when we declare this truth over our circumstances!
I want to share a quick testimony from my life. One Sunday, my laptop’s hard drive failed. I remained peaceful and declared, “This is not normal.” By the Wednesday, I declared, “It will be ten times better, and I won’t pay a cent for it.”
On the Thursday, a friend felt led to bless me by buying me a brand-new hard drive, which arrived on the Friday. That following Sunday morning, in church, the Lord helped me notice something on the packaging of the hard drive —“10x Faster”.
Child of God, I want you to know one thing: There is nothing you can do on this earth, or under the sun, to earn the salvation of Jesus. It is freely given to you by love and grace. Everything was created through Jesus, and all you need to do is receive the gift of life and victory. Live in this truth by storing the Word in your heart, declaring it on your lips, and speaking it over your circumstances.
Jesus is the Word, and everything we ask in His name, He will do. We can live without fear and judgment, because this is who Jesus is and what He has done for you and me.
Amen.
Be Blessed
Barry.
